GTK A New Offshore Stick Changed Over with New Materials

OFFSHORE STICK GTK is a high-modulus, high strength rod which has been fully remodelled from our original Offshore Stick GSS by using SMITH’s original new material GTK (Graphite, Titanium, & Kevlar) 30-40.  It is a 30t. + 40t graphite composite wound up by the same manufacturing method that is used for our glassfiber composite rod WGJ, with titanium and Kevlar used as special reinforcement.  As a result, the strength of the rod increased by 25% and the rod diameter reduced by 9.5%, compared to our former material. Kevlar is incorporated spirally in the tip section, while titanium vertically in the butt section in the high density. (The contact point between the two materials is set on the point which bends most at the time of casting within the maximum allowance range. In this series, the point is on “the guide next to butt guide”).  This gives the whole rod a powerful spring mode.

This new design allows the rod to generate instant, bigger repulsive force as the load becomes heavier. In other words, when the rod is under a heavy load, like that of casting, it responds instantaneously and produces overwhelming casting performance. When manipulating lures, it is easy to put lure weight on the rod because the light load results in moderate bend at the tip section.  While, at the time of fighting and lifting, you can reel in the fish easily by simply sustaining the rod despite its strong pull, thanks to the high responsiveness peculiar to high elasticity material, Thus, anglers’ energy loss is considerably reduced.

Over the past two years, we tested GTK-56ST in Japanese waters, GTK-74PG in Japanese and Moldiv waters, and GTK-77BG in Japanese coral islands Tokara and Okinawa, and Moldiv, etc.  Some photos of the catches are shown in Mr. Kozo Okubo’s website as well, and your visit to the site will be welcomed.

* Product specifications

GTK-56ST  (Surface Twitching)

Target Fish              : Dolphin fish, migratory fish

Smith’s Recommendation Lures : Saruna, Surger, Zipsea Pen & Pop

Tip                   : Twitching 18g or 28g Metal Bait finely with high speed retrieve produces flapping by soft tip, which works great (for yellowtail, bonito)

A technical short rod for twitching minnows, etc.  Moderate fast taper with slight tip action for smooth hooking and better manipulation of plugs.

GTK-66SJ  (Surface Jerking)

Target Fish              : Dolphin fish, migratory fish

Smith’s Recommendation Lures : Saruna SR, L-Dourado, Zipsea Pen& Pop, etc.

Tip                   : Cast our Vimetal Spin with its tail hook changed to 2x–3x strong wire, and wind it by fast and steady retrieve. This works great for bonito and nibbler.

Optimal for jerking with lipless minnow, splasher, popper, etc.  A bit slower moderate fast taper than 56ST, so that plugs make action even if only steady retrieve.

GTK-73SJ  (Surface Jerking)

Target fish     : Small and medium sized migratory fish (Boiling Amberjack, Yellowtail,

                     Nibbler), especially under boiling conditions.

A rod with a bit longer soft tip section. The tip bends easily even if a lure weight is less than 50g, and Kevlar’s high repulsive force makes long casting possible.  Recently, Nibbler, Amberjack, and Yellow tail are attracting attention as the target fish in boiling conditions. They go underwater when a boat approaches, and also when a metal jig cast from a distance lands on the water. Strangely enough, they do not go underwater when plugs are cast. This is why a rod with long casting performance even for plugs is required.

GTK-74PG  (Powerful Game)

Target Fish              : Big dolphin fish, small and medium sized migratory fish

Smith’s Recommendation Lures : Marvelous Runboh Jr. Metal Bait, Metal Jack, etc.

A long caster with enormous potentialities, which can full-cast not only plug/metal jigs but also heavy lures. Its average casting performance is well over 90m even if a lure weight is about 80g.  Because of its fast-taper design which is excellent in remote manipulation from a long distance, you can jerk, dive, and pop plugs at will.

GTK-70JP (Jerk & Popping)

Target Fish              : Big dolphin fish, small and medium sized migratory fish

Smith’s Recommendation Lures : Marvelous Runboh Jr. Metal Bait, Metal Jack, et

A model designed for hard jerking and popping of the pencil type plug or ideal for cast and jerking of metal jigs. Designed for lure around to the 130g weight.

GTK-77BG KEYOLHU  (Big Game)

Target Fish              : Giant Trevally, Big-sized migratory fish

Smith’s Recommendation Lures : Marvelous GT, Marvelous Runboh, etc.

It is called “Keyoro” meaning a great fisherman in Moldiv.  Of all the GT rods available on the market with the same level of performance, this is the thinnest and lightest with the greatest lifting power from the belly to the butt.  You can see the restorative force with your own eyes when fighting with middle-sized GT.  Because of its outstanding power, this rod is for the experienced anglers who can manipulate the rod within rod angle 60° (otherwise the performance will be impaired considerably). For beginners/ intermediary anglers, WRC’s popping special 76P or 80P/35 is recommended.

Characteristics of GTK Series

Guide

Taking into consideration the use of heavy weight plug   GTK-77BG has a guide setting with importance attached on SIC ring’s strength and impact resistance (PST-F ring + NSG).  The difference of flame shape does not make a big difference in casting performance because the self-weight is heavy. The other models have an ocean guide setting with importance attached on casting performance. All models are double wrapping spec.

Grip

A slim grip made of mid-hard EVA. Easy to grip, hold and cast.  The same design that is used for WGJ. This shape is best for popping, etc. which need to manipulate the rod under your arm.  The reel seat, which is also a slim type, is up-lock spec. and with non-slip long nut and sleeve.

Butt Decoration

A logo KEYOLHU and the Arabian letters meaning it are embroidered on GTK-77BG by hand-made wrapping which requires highly skilled craftsmanship. The other models have hand-made diamond wrapping.

Blank Color

The basic color is clear black.  Kevlar and titanium is clearly seen in the sunlight.
